Quick and Easy DIY Summer Rope Necklace

With the warm days of summer come the perfect opportunities to add a fun, breezy accessory to your wardrobe. This summer, I’ve been obsessed with straw hats and rope accents. While I’m still on the lookout for the ideal straw hat, I’ve managed to satisfy my rope cravings with this super simple DIY necklace. It’s an easy project that’s perfect for a laid-back crafting session, and it only takes about five minutes to make!

What You’ll Need:

  • Cotton clothing rope
  • Embroidery floss (choose colors that speak to you)
  • Glue

How to Make Your Necklace:

  1. Measure the Rope
Start by cutting your cotton rope. You’ll want it long enough to loop over your head twice comfortably. If you’d like a smaller necklace, you’ll need to make each loop a separate piece since they’ll be joined together.
  2. Create the Knots
At one end of the rope, tie a simple knot. On the opposite end, make a small loop and tie it with your embroidery floss. Ensure the knot on the other side fits snugly inside the loop.
  3. Wrap the Floss
Tightly wrap the embroidery floss around the looped rope, and secure it with a knot. Add a bit of glue to keep the knot in place, then trim any excess floss. If you’re using glue that takes longer to set, hold the floss in place until it dries before trimming.
  4. Join the Two Loops
Try the necklace on to figure out where you want the two loops to meet. Once you find the perfect spot, repeat the wrapping process to bind the two loops together. You can also overlap the rope ends and bind them with the same technique for a neat finish.

Once you’re done, slip on your necklace and enjoy its effortless charm. It’s the perfect accessory to throw on over a casual tank top for a day at the beach or a laid-back summer outing.

I’m absolutely in love with how wearable this peachy pink version turned out, and it’s so versatile that I even brought it along with me on a trip to Japan. It’s a fun and easy way to add a pop of color to your summer look!
