Essential Spring and Summer Handbag: The Crossbody

As the seasons change, so should your handbag collection. Three styles stand out as essentials for both spring and summer: the tote, the clutch, and the crossbody. These classic designs seamlessly carry you through the warmer months, and today, let’s focus on the crossbody.

A crossbody is a must-have for spring and summer because of its practicality and versatility. It’s a compact option that keeps your hands free, perfect for carrying your drink, holding onto your hat, or even picking fresh flowers during those sunny days. It’s the ultimate carefree bag that allows you to move about without any hassle.

Key Factors to Look for in a Crossbody

When selecting the perfect crossbody, focus on size, color, and style. For this particular look, I chose a more elegant version of the crossbody. This style is versatile enough to be dressed up for an evening out or paired casually with distressed jeans and a tee. Look for a crossbody that suits both casual and more polished outfits, as you’ll likely use it on multiple occasions.

As for size, ensure that it’s just the right fit. You want a bag large enough to carry your essentials but not so bulky that it strains your shoulder. On the flip side, it shouldn’t be too small either, as you want to be able to fit your must-haves inside.

Now, let’s talk about color. If you’re planning to embrace vibrant hues this spring and summer, choose a bright color that complements various outfits. Opt for shades like yellow, blue, or coral. A pastel pink crossbody, like the one I’ve paired here, is perfect for pairing with whites, blacks, jeans, or solid or patterned tops. This allows you to maximize your wearability, making it a great addition to any wardrobe.

Styling a Drop Waist Dress

Now, let’s talk about the drop waist dress—a style that can be tricky to pull off but can also be stunning when done right. While it made a comeback last year, I was hesitant to try it out due to its potentially unflattering shape. A drop waist dress is designed to end at or just below the hips with extra fabric that flares out. This style tends to accentuate the torso and, if you’re bottom-heavy, may make you appear heavier than you are.

For this outfit, I went for a drop waist dress that ends just past my hips in a darker blue. The more fitted bottom made it much easier to wear. Darker colors are always flattering as they create a slimming effect, and this dress’s lace detailing adds a touch of elegance. I completed the look with embellished purple heels and a pastel crossbody, giving the outfit a chic, dressy vibe.

If you’re intrigued by the drop waist style, experiment with various cuts, fabrics, and colors. The key is finding the right fit for your body shape and deciding whether you prefer a subtle flare or a more structured fall.
