If you’re looking for a stylish way to wear booties with jeans, you’re in the right place! Pairing booties with jeans can create a classic and fashionable outfit, but there are a few things to keep in mind when putting the look together.
I wore this outfit in early September, just as the weather started to cool and the excitement of fall set in. I chose white jeans for Labor Day weekend, but if you’re not concerned about the old “no white after Labor Day” rule, check out my post on how to wear white jeans year-round. You’ll find great examples of how to style them for fall and winter with different types of boots.
When styling booties with jeans, focus on the right combination of items—shirt, sweater, blouse, jeans, and of course, the booties. While these pieces are basics, it’s the details—like color, the cut of the jeans, and the style of booties—that make the outfit unique.
The most flattering way to wear booties with jeans is by choosing skinny jeans that hit at the ankle. You can also cuff the jeans for an extra stylish touch. Opting for skinny cropped jeans lets the booties shine and gives the look a more streamlined, sleek feel.
In my outfits with booties, I like to leave about two inches of my ankle exposed. This helps add dimension to the outfit and prevents it from looking too bulky. Depending on your booties, you can also tuck your skinny jeans into your boots. However, this doesn’t work well with every style of ankle boot—my particular boots are a bit too fitted for that look. But if your booties have a wider opening, tucking your jeans in is definitely an option.
Avoid jeans that are too loose, as they can create a sloppy appearance. Also, I’m not a fan of booties with bootcut jeans—they just don’t pair well together. Stick to slimmer cuts for a more polished look.
When it comes to color coordination, the color of your booties should complement your jeans. Brown boots look fantastic with white or blue jeans and even olive or burgundy trousers. If you’re going for trousers, stick with skinny ankle-length styles, avoiding flared trousers.
Black boots, on the other hand, are incredibly versatile and pair well with gray, black, blue, or charcoal jeans. Their neutral color opens up plenty of styling options.
Once you’ve picked your jeans and booties, it’s time to choose a shirt to pull the outfit together. I personally love pairing booties with slightly loose-fitting tops. Tight clothing from top to bottom can feel restrictive and doesn’t balance the proportions of the outfit well.
In this look, I went with a chambray blouse. The soft blue of the shirt contrasts beautifully with the white jeans, creating a cohesive and stylish combination. The booties I’m wearing are from Sole Society, which offers many affordable and cute options to complete your look.
Next time you’re putting together a look with booties, remember these simple tips to ensure you’re creating a stylish and flattering outfit. With the right jeans, booties, and top, you’ll have a chic look perfect for any casual outing.
